Contrary to what many people think, naming a man on a child’s birth certificate doesn’t legally establish him as the child’s father. If the parents aren’t married at the time of birth, the mother is granted full legal custody and must establish paternity by a court order in order to file for child support. If the parents do not agree as to who the child’s father is, paternity may be established by a DNA test.
Thankfully, the team at Kowalski, Wilson & Vang, LLC, has extensive experience helping Wisconsin families navigate difficult situations like these. Reach out to us today to learn more and set up a consultation.
