From the desk of Lupe Garcia-Delgado

Our Madera Community is going to take a hard hit economically with two of our long standing businesses laying off approximately 300 people from Mission Bell Winery and JBT Food Tech.

This will have a financial impact on those individuals as well as a significant change in our local economy.

If you are facing possible financial hardships due to either a child or spousal support obligation, my office will be helping those affected by the layoffs with reduced legal document preparation fees to modify these orders.

Please feel free to contact my office @ 559.232.6403 to schedule an appointment to discuss your case as well as review options to reduce these obligations.

$75 for a one hour appt

Sending you strength during these times.

To the general public this probably doesn’t mean much if you are dealing with a person doing your legal paperwork- but it’s actually very
Important.

Why you ask?

Well because in order for a person to do your legal paperwork if you are representing yourself in court, we have to be licensed, bonded by a surety company as well as have the legal training and education to perform such services.

Unfortunately many people may not know that but it’s the law under the Business and Professions Code.

When I meet with a client I have to show them my badge as well as stamp all my paperwork submitted to the Court to confirm I am legally authorized to perform such work.

I get it - people want legal paperwork done for a low price especially nowadays with such a tight economy as well as people who simply cannot afford an attorney but your case is important especially if you are dealing with statutes, deadlines etc. you want to hire someone that knows this information because it is vital to your case.

Tax preparers do taxes

Notaries - notarize docs

Legal document assistants - do legal paperwork

So please consumers make sure when you are representing yourself and need legal assistance please make sure you seek assistance from someone authorized to do so.

As for myself and other local LDA’s we spend a lot of time, money and additional continuing ed to keep us apprised in law and it’s not fair for our business to be monopolized by people performing such legal services not authorized to do so.

For a list of current LDA’s please check the Madera County Recorder’s Website for a list of LDA’s.

Lupe’s Legal Logic:

If you are currently in litigation for child custody/visitation - please think of your children first and foremost.

They are innocent and emotionally fragile and already hurting - don’t make this harder on them. 🥺

It’s been some time since I’ve posted on this platform.

I wanted to extend my thanks to all my clients who have trusted me with their cases these last 20+ years.

I have been servicing my Madera community with their legal needs as a sole proprietor Legal Document Assistant since 2002.

2024 marked 22 years I have been in this industry and that in and of itself has been a blessing to be able to help my community who might not otherwise be able to afford an attorney.

With that being said - I have had to make some changes for the coming year.

Effective January 1, 2025 my fee for a one hour appt. Will be $75 (this must be prepaid by Applepay, Venmo, Zelle) to secure your slot.

(Unfortunately after 20 years I never charged for an initial meeting but I had to start implementing this fee because “a lot” of days I would be at my office and people were no show/no call) my time is valued and I felt people were not respectful of that.

I thank you for your understanding.

In addition, if you are not aware LDA’s have to be licensed and bonded to do public work and our stamp has to be put on all work we do - so if you are employing someone to do your legal paperwork please make sure they provide that information to you. A current list of LDA’a are also located on the Madera County Recorder’s Website.

In closing, there are a lot of LDA’s in our community who each have legal expertise to assist you - my speciality is Family Law - which consist of divorce, child custody, child support, DCSS cases etc.

Sending you my blessings for 2025.

From the desk of Lupe Garcia-Delgado, owner Executive Legal Services

Happy New Year 🎆 and blessings for the the new year as well as continued health to all my clients/friends/family.

2020 was a busy year for me as I was able to still assist clients with their legal needs despite the temporary court closures. Some of the courts have opened up to the public for court filings as well as the Courts for hearings. (Fresno/Madera/Merced)

Thank you for your continued business and I appreciate your confidence in me with all your legal needs.

I have been in business since 2004 (time flies) and I look forward to continue to provide legal services for individuals who may not otherwise have the funds to retain an attorney. My primary field of expertise is Family Law.

I am currently taking new clients and as a precautionary measure due to Covid, I meet with clients once per week. I offer a free one hour consultation at which time I quote you my fee for your specific legal needs.

Looking forward to 2021 and assisting you. You can also view my website on the link above.

Fun Facts Friday:
December 2003 - quit my job with a prestigious Family Law firm in Fresno - as a single parent with no savings and not knowing how I was going to pay for Christmas or January rent
January 2004 - Reached out to colleagues in Madera for freelance paralegal work until I could establish my business
Operated my business from my two bedroom apartment for several years because I could not afford rental space
Struggled financially for the first few years to make ends meet - taking whatever legal work I could get
Car 🚗 got repossessed because I got behind in payments because clients were not paying me
Eviction notice was next
Two eye surgeries sidelined me
Still kept the fire 🔥 in my belly to succeed
Rented a shared space and kept grinding to establish clients and continued to freelance paralegal work
Business started building as well as my client base
Rented a bigger shared space and continued to grind
2007 - Son graduated from high school in and went directly to a UC
My mom diagnosed with cancer - January 2017
April 2017 - finally opened my own office suite
My dad died - October 2017
Discovered my Mom’s cancer came back on October 31, 2017
I still kept grinding
My business was small yet successful after 13 years
Through all this I served as a member of La Raza Lawyers, Latinas Unidas, Sierra Charter School Board Member, chaired local 5k races to raise money for various causes - breast cancer, food bank etc.
March 2018 - mom lost her battle to cancer
March 2018 - Bought my first home 🏡
Still kept grinding
July 2018 - my oldest sister passed away after a lengthy illness
Still grinding and still struggling trying to figure out why I was being tossed all these hardships
October 2019 - became a grandmother 👵 for the first time
2020 - Finally feeling peace and proud of my small business
The moral of my story - never give up, keep grinding, keep a tight circle of very supportive friends, you build a tougher skin when you are self employed, not everyone is going to like you - and that’s perfectly ok, not everyone will understand “your grind,” stay humble, stay hungry, give back. Success is not always about money - it’s about survival!!!

Thankful Thursday - I am an essential worker and have been since this whole pandemic/in sheltering started in March 2020.

I had no idea how it would affect my small business with the partial closure of our courthouses in the Central Valley. However, in spite of that, my business has been spared and I am still working. The courts are now starting to hear more cases on the daily calendar docket; however the clerk’s offices (in Fresno/Merced) are still closed to the public. Madera is open for filing which is my primary place of business. I’ve had to make adjustments to my business in order to comply with CDC regulations and I’m only meeting with clients one day per week. I don’t know what the remainder of 2020 will bring to a lot of us self employed small businesses but one thing remains clear is that small businesses do play a big role in our economy and we must continue to support them. 🙏
