As we enjoy our Turkey and time off, remember the WSP has increased patrols specifically looking for distracted driving and driving under the influence. Traditionally this extended weekend is one of the highest citation and arrest days for drivers. If you plan to partake in a substance that may impair your ability to drive, be sure to have a plan first. An uber or even a hotel is much cheaper than a DUI. Be safe and have a happy holiday season.

If you or a loved one is in need of a criminal defense or traffic ticket defense lawyer, give me a call for a free consultation. 206-427-4901.

It was a nice visit to the Bellingham court this morning. I’m in a lot of courts around the area, Bellingham Municipal is one of my favorites.

Happy New Years Eve! As we ring in the New Year, be sure to plan ahead. Have a designated driver, Uber/Lyft app downloaded, or a place to stay. Remember, law enforcement will be out to ring in the New Year right along with you. Be safe and know that the courts are close on Monday so it could be a longer weekend than planned.

If you or a loved one needs legal help, give me a call at 206-427-4901.

Updates on a very interesting case I was able to work on to help my client.

The "administrative reassignment" comes after a KING 5 investigation revealed that WSP pressed their case against the driver and not the trooper that caused it.

After months of fighting for my client, we got the case dismissed with an apology from the WSP and news coverage from Chris Ingalls at King 5.

On King 5 news tonight 6:30 - 7:30.

“They took it a little personally,” the WSP crash expert said of superiors who cited a civilian driver, who was also injured in the crash.

Fighting Traffic Tickets in Washington State: What You Need to Know

As a lawyer in Washington State, I've seen many individuals receive traffic tickets for a variety of reasons. Whether it's for speeding, running a red light, or failure to yield, traffic tickets can be a hassle and a financial burden. However, there are steps you can take to fight a traffic ticket and potentially reduce or eliminate the fines and consequences. Here's what you need to know:

Know your rights and options.
In Washington State, you have the right to contest a traffic ticket in court. This means you can present evidence and arguments to challenge the ticket. You can also choose to plea bargain with the prosecutor, which involves negotiating a reduced fine or lesser charge in exchange for a committed finding on the infraction.

Gather evidence.
If you plan to contest the ticket in court, it's important to gather evidence to support your case. This can include witnesses, photographs, and any other relevant information that can help prove your innocence. Additionally, it's a good idea to review the traffic laws and regulations relevant to your case, so you can better understand the charges against you.

Hire a lawyer.
While you can represent yourself in court, it's often wise to hire a lawyer to help fight your traffic ticket. A lawyer will have a better understanding of the legal system and can provide valuable guidance and support throughout the process. Additionally, a lawyer can negotiate on your behalf and present a more compelling case in court.

Prepare for court.
If you decide to fight your traffic ticket in court, it's important to be prepared. This means dressing appropriately, being on time, and presenting your evidence and arguments in a clear and concise manner. It's also important to remain respectful and professional at all times, even if the outcome of the case doesn't go in your favor.

Fighting a traffic ticket in Washington State requires preparation and knowledge of the legal system. Whether you choose to contest the ticket in court, plea bargain, or hire a lawyer, it's important to understand your rights and options. By taking the time to prepare and gather evidence, you can increase your chances of success and reduce the financial burden of a traffic ticket.

WSP conducted High Visibility Enforcement (HiVE) throughout December which resulted in very high number of infractions and numerous DUI arrests. With those results, it begs the question of why have undercover patrol vehicles for traffic enforcement? Stay alert and be safe.
