Well, well, well — another day, another scam.

Several teammates here at the Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office have received text messages claiming they failed to pay an electronic toll, parking violation, or speeding violation.

We know that if our teammates are receiving these bogus notifications, many of you probably are too.

Here’s the first red flag: some of the teammates who received these so-called “violations” had not even been to Miami, where the violation supposedly occurred.

Please remember:

Do not pay.
Do not respond.
Do not click the QR code or any links.
Do not provide personal or payment information.

Scammers count on people reacting quickly out of fear or frustration. Take a moment, verify through official sources, and when in doubt, delete the message.

Pasco Sheriff’s Office’s Economic Crimes Unit conducted an unlicensed contractor operation between Dec. 8-11, in the West Pasco County area, resulting in 17 arrests of individuals performing work without the necessary licenses. These subjects offered to complete contracting services to include, but not limited to, electrical, roofing, plumbing and air conditioning installation. During the investigation, it was determined these individuals did not have the proper licensing to complete any jobs that they quoted during this operation. Contractor fraud renders victims liable for damages and reduces resources in a contract breach. PSO urges citizens to review the tips below regarding unlicensed contractor scams to reduce their chances of victimization.

PSO shares our appreciation with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for assisting in this important operation to ensure the safety of our citizens. Historic Tax Relief: $1.3 Billion in Tax Savings for Families & Businesses Signed Into Law effective October 1, 2025

HB 7031 permanently eliminates the sales tax on commercial leases, effective October 1, 2025.

Creates a permanent Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday during the month of August for clothing, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, and personal computers or computer-related accessories, including software.

Permanently eliminates the sales tax on certain batteries, fuel tanks, portable generators, tarps, and ground anchors or tie-down kits.

Permanently eliminates the sales tax on fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors.

Permanently eliminates the sales tax on sunscreen and insect repellent.

Permanently eliminates the sales tax on life jackets and bicycle helmets.

Permanently eliminates the sales tax on admission to Florida State Parks.

Permanently eliminates the sales tax on purchases of gold, silver, and platinum bullion when purchased in units valued under $500. Units valued over $500 are already tax-free.

Creates a new sales tax holiday from September 8 – December 31, 2025, offering savings on camping, fishing, and hunting supplies, providing opportunities for tax-free savings for Floridians exercising their constitutional right to hunt and fish.
