Attention business owners in Texas: your franchise-tax report (or no-tax-due / public-information report) is due to the Texas Comptroller by May 15, 2026. Failure to file on time may lead to a fine. Wait too long and your business entity (LLC, corporation, etc) will forfeit its ability to do business in the State of Texas until you get it fixed with the Comptroller.

You should have received several notices in the mail from the Texas Comptroller with your WebFile number and Tax ID number so that you can file online. Takes just a few minutes to make sure your business is set up and running smoothly with the State for another year!

Very proud to share another Appellate win for our clients, who were retaliated against by a builder who didn’t pay his subcontractors and then sued *them* instead of taking responsibility. Many, many thanks to all who helped us in our match challenge to benefit Lubbock Impact! After 10 days and amazing partners with Drug Emporium Lubbock and John’s two Tech Cafe locations, we collected 2,275 and $3,407 in cash for the food pantry!

Proud to be handling two probates for a family in Swisher County (Tulia) this week. We have another in a couple of weeks in Wilbarger County (Vernon). Both of our clients for those cases were turned away by more than 5 attorneys before finding us. No one else was willing to walk alongside these West Texas neighbors as they navigated the most difficult situation a family can face.

But here at VPLF we do our best to shoulder as much of that burden as possible. As I (Kristen) told our new client this week: we’ve got you. Breathe.
