The Trump Account is available for every U.S. citizen born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028. Families can open one at TrumpAccounts.gov or by filing Form 4547 with the IRS.
But opening the account and claiming the $1,000 are two separate steps, and most families don't know that.
To trigger the government's pilot contribution, the filer must check the election box in Part III, line 7 of Form 4547. That election is what tells the government to make the deposit. Without it, the account can be open, active, and receiving family contributions for years, and the government's $1,000 never shows up.
It's a single checkbox. But it's one many families will miss simply because no one told them it existed. This week's article covers exactly what to do and in what order.
