Neighborhood update: Mid City Mall

Looks beautiful, encouraging!

Earlier this month, the family that owns the Mid City Mall property announced a partnership with Atlanta-based developer Branch Properties, which released the renderings Friday of what it calls "Mid City Market." They show an unnamed grocery store anchor tenant in the space between Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue with plenty of space for other development around it.

"Mid City Mall has been part of this neighborhood for decades," Jesse Shannon, president and CIO at Branch Properties, said in a news release. "Our goal is not to erase that history, but to reinvest in it by updating the site in a way that respects what's already here while making it more functional and welcoming for the future."

The plans, announced in a news release Friday, call for the retention of the existing Louisville Free Public Library branch at Mid City Mall as well as the addition of a "publicly accessible green space" called Rosewood Park.
Neighborhood Update

New renderings from the developer of Louisville's Mid City Mall property show a large grocery store surrounded by green space, smaller retail buildings and a lot of parking spaces.

Of Branch Properties' 34 nationwide properties, 24 feature a Publix, though the company hasn't definitely said that's what's coming to this space.

While the renderings show a fair amount of parking spaces for what's otherwise a dense urban area, Branch Properties said its "thoughtful site design" places most of the parking "out of view to reduce visual impact and improve the pedestrian experience" in the area.

"We recognize how important this site is to the surrounding neighborhoods," Shannon said in a news release. "We're committed to transparency, listening and continued collaboration as we refine the plan."
