Many wrecks are caused by tractor-trailers. Due to the magnitude of these vehicles, the wreck usually results in very high damages. Fortunately, the company that the truck driver is working for is usually liable for the actions of their employee. In these cases, the insurance policies may be higher, which means you may be able to recover more money to compensate you for your damages.

Many people don’t know what UM and UIM coverage is, nevertheless understand their importance. Uninsured Motorist coverage (UM) protects you in the event that you were involved in a car wreck with someone without insurance. In that case, you would seek reimbursement for your damages from your own insurance company. Similarly, Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UIM) protects you in the event that you’re involved in a car wreck with someone who does not have adequate insurance to cover your damages.

Most insurance policies only provide $25,000 coverage for damages. Unfortunately, this amount is not always enough to cover damages sustained in a wreck. In this case, you would seek the maximum amount of coverage from the at-fault driver, and then seek damages from your own insurance company for any amount over the at-fault driver’s policy limits. Carrying UM and UIM coverage is not a large expense, and could prove to be a life saver. Both UM and UIM must be purchased before the wreck and many people do not even know that they have it.

If you’ve been in a wreck, please contact us today so that we can speak directly to your insurance company to see what benefits you’re entitled to.

If the law protects workers’ rights, you may be wondering why you need a lawyer. Unfortunately, the intent of the law and how workers’ compensation insurance companies handle claims are not necessarily the same. Insurance companies often seek to delay payment of claims by disputing your injuries.

Obtaining a skilled, experienced workers’ compensation lawyer can relieve the frustration of dealing with insurance companies and often speeds up the receipt of needed benefits. Being in pain is tough, but being out of work can be devastating.

Often, employees are afraid to come forward about certain situations arising in the workplace for fear of losing their jobs. However, both the state and federal governments have created protections for employees in an effort to combat an employer’s retaliation. Areas that receive protection can include, but are not limited to, situations in which the employee files an administrative complaint, files a lawsuit against the company, requests an ADA accommodation, uses FMLA, or files a worker’s compensation claim. This means that if an employee engages in a protected activity, the employer may not, as a result, retaliate against the employee. Actions that are considered retaliation can include firing the employee, reducing their hours, transferring them, or demoting them. This area involves a wide variety of activities and responses; therefore, it is difficult to provide an exhaustive list of protected activities and impermissible retaliation. If you fear you have been the subject of retaliation, you should contact Zach or Nina today.
