I am pleased to announce that Darren O'Connor Law, LLC, was successful in reaching a settlement agreement for my client after we filed a lawsuit under Section 1981 for discrimination against local restaurant William Oliver's Publick House in Lafayette.

At a time when long-standing civil rights laws are being turned on their heads, especially at the national level, the courts are still a forum to seek justice. I am so proud of Ms. Richmond for her fortitude and her commitment to seeing justice achieved.

"The Denver building where an 11-year-old girl was injured after falling several stories from an open window on Monday has a history of broken window locks, according to city officials and legal letters sent to the Salvation Army.

A resident at Denver’s Tamarac Family Shelter reached out to Darren O’Connor — a Colorado-based attorney who focuses on family law, civil rights and eviction tenant representation — early last year because water was seeping into his family’s unit and causing mold to grow in the carpet, O’Connor said.

The leakage was traced to an unsealed, sliding glass window that wouldn’t close entirely or lock, which concerned the family with a crawling toddler, O’Connor said.

O’Connor described the issue as a “phenomenal risk of catastrophe” in a letter to the Salvation Army about the unit’s habitability in February 2024."

Bernstein v. Friberg, Colo. Case No. 2023CV30535. I had the honor of a successful jury trial in which my client got one of the earliest judgements of its kind in Colorado against her ex husband, Josh Friberg, for unauthorized distribution of intimate images.

Mr. Friberg took her private photos without her consent and shared them without her consent to shame her. This is inexcusable, awful, and illegal behavior, and today a jury in Adams County District Court awarded her $65,000. They also awarded her $35,000 forMr. Friberg's intentional infliction of severe emotional distress. I had the pleasure of speaking with the jury afterwards, who then filed out and one by one gave her hugs and encouragement. After years of what I would call torture, her pain was validated, and her abuser held accountable. Ms. Bernstein found this statute I was unaware of, and was active in assisting me be successful from day one. She now hopes to be a paralegal, and what a fantastic one she will be!

I cannot express the level of honor it was for me to champion this case, and to, fortunately, see her successful. So many others assisted me, and I am forever grateful. With all the darkness in the world, it was a wonderful day to see real justice levied on a cruel individual.

Police expect people to follow lawful orders, but, as this case shows, often act above the laws they too are subjected to. I'm grateful to Yellow Scene Magazine and attorney Dan Williams for holding the city of Boulder accountable.
