I am currently engaged in the preparation of two distinct affidavits, each tailored for a separate client. One affidavit is being drafted for an individual undergoing active deportation proceedings, specifically to support their application for protection under the Convention Against Torture (CAT). The second affidavit pertains to a client whose formal hearing is anticipated to occur within the upcoming months. It is notable that a central and critical element requiring detailed explanation and substantiation in both of these legal documents relates to the significance and context of tattoos.

I am currently working on preparing an affidavit for our new client. A significant focus of this document will be to thoroughly address and clarify the nature of the client's tattoos, explicitly affirming that they are not associated with any gang affiliation. We recognize the importance of presenting comprehensive documentation and a clear narrative to ensure this aspect is well-understood and accurately represented within the relevant administrative processes.

Immigrant detention centers across the U.S. are holding more people in solitary confinement than under previous administrations — and for longer periods of time. In this story, LAist zooms in on the use of what’s been dubbed “segregation” at the Adelanto ICE processing center, learning from experts who’ve conducted site visits and detainees with lived experience.

Medical experts say this type of isolation can worsen medical issues and mental health conditions. Experts who monitor immigrant detention centers also say solitary confinement is being used to punish civil detainees, sometimes for minor infractions or for requesting things they need.

Some 2,000 immigrants are currently being held at the Adelanto detention center. An LAist analysis of the most recent ICE data found that, ranked by percentage of the detainee population in “segregation,” Adelanto is among the U.S.’s top 10 facilities.

Immigrants rights groups have filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Adelanto detainees, seeking to improve conditions for all people being held there. The next court hearing is scheduled for May 22.

I am writing to provide a concise update on my recent professional endeavors. Last week, I successfully finalized and submitted the affidavit pertaining to a political asylum immigration case. My current focus is intensely directed towards the meticulous preparation of another critical affidavit, this one for an immigration withholding of removal case, with an imperative submission deadline of the upcoming Monday.
