Jury deliberations began in the trial of Elizabeth Holmes, the woman accused of defrauding investors by claiming that her company had invented a testing device that could detect diseases with a finger prick instead of a needle. The story was made into an HBO documentary, starring Holmes herself called The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.

Scott Peterson who was sentenced to death for the murders of his wife and unborn child was resentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole last week after the California Supreme Court ruled that perspective jurors had not been screened for biases against the death penalty. He has a hearing scheduled in February 2022 where a judge will decide if he should receive a new trial because his defense attorney claims that a juror gave false answers on the jury questionnaire so that the juror would be selected as a juror in Peterson’s trial.

TRIAL BEGINS FOR FORMER POLICE OFFICER WHO KILLED DAUNTE WRIGHT WHEN SHE DREW HER TASER INSTEAD OF HER GUN

Opening statements were Wednesday in the trial of Kim Potter, the former police officer who is charged with manslaughter for killing Daunte Wright when she drew her gun instead of her taser during a traffic stop. Prosecutors argued that her actions amounted to criminal recklessness, attorneys for Potter argued that it was a mistake.

Potter is charged with two counts, first-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter. If convicted of first-degree manslaughter, Potter faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, if convicted of second-degree manslaughter, she faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
