The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate a deadly crash on Pacific Coast Highway that killed a chef from the popular restaurant Nobu Malibu.

The crash happened on Saturday near the restaurant just before 7 a.m.

Ryo Uchimiya, 51, was sitting in his car, parked on the shoulder in the 22600 block of PCH, when a 16-year-old in a Range Rover crashed into the back of the car, according to the sheriff’s department.

Uchimiya was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash involved four vehicles total, with Uchimiya’s vehicle being pushed into other, unoccupied parked cars during the collision.

“The cars barely touched.” That may be an insurance company’s argument—but it doesn’t tell the whole story.

Visible vehicle damage matters. So do your symptoms, medical records, and the facts of the collision. A photograph alone cannot determine whether someone was injured.

The biggest insurance mistake might happen before you ever get into a crash. 🚗

A cheaper monthly premium can look great—until you actually need the coverage.

Before renewing your auto insurance, take a few minutes to check:
✔️ Your liability limits
✔️ Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
✔️ Your deductibles
✔️ Whether the correct drivers and vehicles are actually covered

California’s minimum liability limits have increased, but “minimum coverage” doesn’t necessarily mean enough coverage after a serious accident.

The goal isn’t always to buy the most expensive policy. It’s to understand what you’re actually paying for before you need it.
