Seven acres in Tesuque, New Mexico. A landscape of desert brush and old woods.
The property as a whole is a study in boundaries, in separation and connection, in the way architecture might shape the mind, and how the mind inhabits space.

The living spaces are divided with two structures facing one another across a small brick courtyard. On one side, the house: a kitchen with an Aga stove and zinc counters, twelve-foot ceilings lifting the air, walls of glass doors wave the sky inside. Smooth concrete floors with radiant heat. There’s also a study which doubles as a guest room with a three quarter bath. Across the patio is the second structure: a bedroom that is the entire building, or put another way, a building is entirely one bedroom with a corner fireplace. Glass doors open to a view that feels like a quiet summons at every sunrise. A walk-in closet swallows its contents with ease. The full bath is a room unto itself, designed for precise separations and privacy but it has the symmetry of twin sinks. Contemplate the beauty of diamond-plastered walls that catch the light in a way you can’t command.

Above, on the hill is the studio. A roll-up wall of glass opens to the sky, to the light, to the trees. A guest loft, a minimal kitchen, and on the other side, a gallery and library, sixty-five feet long, ten-foot wood-grid shelves holding volumes of books. There’s something different about the time spent here. The landscape has a presence inside and throughout, and the architectural design, the form and structure, stand in tribute to the land.
