Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is a legal status available to undocumented minors who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected by one or both parents and who cannot reunite with their parents. SIJS is a pathway for eligible minors to obtain legal permanent residency in the United States.

The steps to obtaining a green card through SIJS are simple:

1. Filing a petition in juvenile court: The first step in obtaining SIJS is to file a petition in juvenile/state court.
2. Obtaining a court order: After the petition is filed, the court will hold a hearing to determine if the minor is eligible for SIJS.
3. Filing an immigrant visa petition with USCIS.
4. Applying for adjustment of status

Overall, obtaining SIJS and a green card is a multi-step process that requires legal expertise and careful attention to deadlines and requirements.
It is important to work with an experienced immigration attorney like the attorneys at Hill & Piibe to navigate this process successfully.
