I inadvertently stumbled on this series on Amazon Prime last night while looking for something to watch to distract me from watching the scandalous Lakers game.

I saw its poster tucked away somewhere, clicked on it, and discovered it was a series. (I had thought it was a movie.) The names of the series creator and most of the cast then caught my eye. They were Nigerians. Now I'm thinking: I hope this is NOT a Nollywood production. (It is not.)

After reading the synopsis, I proceeded to check its reviews on Rotten Tomatoes where it has a perfect 100% score and was described by some as the Black "Succession”.

So, now, I'm thinking: Let me just watch part of the pilot episode to see if it's a series I could sink my teeth into for the next 3 or so days or something I'd dump after 30 minutes and never ever revisit.

This was around 7:30 PM.

I started watching and, aside from getting up intermittently to go p*e and grab something to munch on, I couldn't stop watching it.

It's as compelling and as irresistible as any show I've ever seen. The writing is smart and sharp, and the acting, especially from the lead actor (Deborah Ayorinde, who looks so much like Tiwa Savage) is impeccable and almost faultless. (She really did give a virtuoso performance.) Everyone played their role almost too well.

It's a TV version of a page-turner. I didn't stop watching until about 2:30 AM after I had finished all 6 episodes available. Sadly, these were all the episodes on display. (If there were 10 episodes available, I might have kept watching until 6 AM.)

This is an exceptional series. It has so many plot twists and turns, with family secrets popping out from everywhere when you least expect them to that it'll keep you riveted.

I was so proud watching it that a Nigerian created and wrote it and that most of its brilliant casts were also Nigerians.

It was released in December 2022 and it doesn't have a 2nd season. For a show this good, that's very, very disappointing.

I'm guessing there weren't enough eyeballs on it to make it profitable enough for Amazon to green-light a 2nd season.

"Roughly 180,000 people are under evacuation orders, and the fires have consumed about 45 square miles—roughly the size of San Francisco. The Palisades Fire is already the most destructive in Los Angeles history, with 5,316 structures destroyed as of Thursday afternoon." ~ News Report.

The level of devastation from these fires has been unprecedented. In my 20 years of calling Los Angeles home, I have lived through tens of earthquakes and maybe even more fires, but this is the first time I have had an unhealthy fear of something going really tragically wrong.

The size of San Francisco being razed to the ground in just 2 days is fcuk’n insane and fcuk'n scary! (Please pardon my Latin, but this is exactly how I feel right now.)

Anyway, this is not the time to cry over what has been lost; this is the time to stand up and find ways to help those who have been caught up in this unfortunate tragedy of biblical proportions.

In case you're wondering how to help but don't know how to, the following slides will show you how to donate personal items—PLEASE, brand new or fairly used items only—or money to those who have been displaced from their homes and who could use them right now.

You’re also welcome to donate your time as a volunteer at any of the evacuation centers.

Every time I see him or hear his name mentioned, I always remember that scene in “Coming to America” where he brought the entourage to Queens to pay Akeem a surprise visit, and on getting to Akeem’s apartment he asked the landlord where Akeem was. Landlord responded that Akeem had probably gone to work at the McDonald’s down the street.

Incredulous, King Jaffe Joffer screamed: “MY SON WORKS!?”

In that very unforgettable voice of his.

That was the most memorable scene in that movie for me.

That, and “Let them wait! I’m talking to my son" from that same movie.

And who could ever forget him as the voice of Mufasa in the original "Lion King "?

What an iconic voice. What an incredible actor.

May his soul and his incredible voice rest eternally. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
