Effective January 1, 2023, California companies with more than 15 employees are required to post pay scales for job postings.

Under Senate Bill 1162, “pay scale” is defined as “the salary or hourly wage range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for the position.”

This law aims at creating pay equity and transparency for prospective employees, especially for women and minorities. Companies with 100 or more employees must report the pay data of their employees by race, ethnicity and gender to the State of California.
