Bergman and Allderdice

Bergman and Allderdice We are experts in nonprofit law, community and economic development and affordable housing.

We were inspired to found Bergman and Allderdice in 2005 by our belief in the need to create, support and advise nonprofit and mission-based organizations. We see the work of these nonprofits and social enterprises as a key equalizer and resource in a world heavily skewed economically and socially. We have both worked at large firms but prefer the personalized service of a smaller, women-owned law

firm, and we are dedicated to providing high quality and cost effective legal services. We work closely with every one of our clients to solve complex legal matters and to help each realize self-sustainability. Our areas of expertise include affordable housing, community development, social enterprise, tax-exempt bond financing, tax credit financing, including CDFI- and CDE- source financing, compliance, management, public/private partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, nonprofit and for-profit formation and qualifying organizations for tax-exempt status.

We were honored to join our esteemed client, the Downtown Women's Center (DWC), in celebrating their incredible 2025 Every Woman Housed Gala held on Sunday, October 5th at the historic Vibiana. The evening was filled with , , and – all in support of DWC’s mission to end homelessness for women in Los Angeles.

A special highlight of the night was a beautiful performance by the Muses String Quartet: Helen Bendix on viola, Cindy Hickox on cello, and our firm’s very own Beth Bergman and Stephanie Simon on violin. Their performance added a memorable touch to an already inspiring evening.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support and celebrate the important work DWC continues to do for women across Los Angeles.

Last week, our beloved client, the Downtown Women's Center (DWC), broke ground on Rosa's Place, a 97-unit permanent supportive housing campus to be built in the heart of Skid Row in Los Angeles. Beyond providing critical housing, Rosa’s Place will offer , , , and services to women and gender-diverse individuals experiencing from gender-based violence, in a safe and supportive environment. This groundbreaking represents the culmination of a massive five-year effort by a team of private and public partners and funders, including DWC, the city and county of Los Angeles, the state of , Apple, Daylight Community Development, GTM Holdings, and countless others – all working toward a common goal of providing dignified and permanent housing solutions to individuals experiencing homelessness. DWC boasts an astonishing 99% retention rate for the women it houses – a testament to the necessity and effectiveness of such programs and services. We couldn’t be prouder to represent DWC and participate in this critical project.
