One of the most important things parents can do during a custody or dependency case is avoid placing children in the middle of adult conflict.

Children should not be asked to:
• carry messages between parents
• report on the other household
• choose sides
• absorb adult frustrations or litigation stress

Even when conflict between adults is high, children benefit most from stability, reassurance, and the freedom to simply be children.

Small communication changes between adults can have a significant impact on a child’s emotional well-being.
