At our home I am celebrating Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) with my family- a holiday to remember our loved ones who have passed, in a colorful and meaningful way. I am sharing a few of the posters I made for my family’s gathering to make sure all the little ones know about this beautiful tradition.

Today we also take an opportunity to remember that detention centers are the cause of unjust death of immigrants who are being detained unjustly and inhumanely. is a non-profit organization who highlighted the names of some of the immigrants that have passed.

It stresses me out seeing people attend their USCIS Interviews without an attorney. Biased? Sure. But it doesn’t change the fact that USCIS officers are being asked to aggresively dig into cases and explore any possible denial. Our clients had hired a notary to file their paperwork and were scheduled an interview yesterday, we were given 4 business days to prepare. The notary had not instructed them to prepare for joint filings or what to expect for the interview.

This is NOT ok.

Representation must begin from the START, from the start of the consultation until the end. If you ever have a consultation with a notary, paralegal or legal assistant - this is a major red flag.

My clients were dirlled for almost 3 hours during their USCIS interview, they were separated, and asked questions in a very hostile manner. An attorney should be helping you prepare updated documentation for your interview, preparing you for the questions that will be addressed, and making sure that USCIS is not over-stepping their grounds.

So after 3 hours and a day later- I am proud to say my clients were granted their I-130.

Day 1 back from a much needed mental recharging trip and we came back with a bang! A new citizen and lawful resident today! All while recovering from a cold (😷). We gave out N-95 masks to all our clients to keep safe with their approval notices in hand!

🌟 Exciting news for immigrant families! Eligibility for Pres. Biden's new immigration policy announced June 18, 2024 is on the USCIS website.

Here’s what you need to know:

Eligible immigrants will be granted Parole-in-Place (“PIP"). PIP has allowed immigrants to stay in the U.S. without fear of removal (“deportation”) and be granted permission to work. PIP is also a legal tool that will allow a path to residency and eventually citizenship in the future (if eligible, of course!).

Eligibility Criteria:

✅ Be present in the U.S. without admission or parole
✅ Continuously present in the U.S. for at least 10 years as of June 17, 2024
✅ Legally married to a U.S. citizen as of June 17, 2024

🛑 Important Note: Applicants must not have a disqualifying criminal history, pose a threat to national security or public safety, and should merit a favorable exercise of discretion.
🛑 It is unclear how possible border detentions will affect eligibility - do not apply without consulting an attorney!

🚨 Avoid Scams: Until USCIS announces the application details and date to submit the application do not hire help (just yet!). The program is expected to launch at the end of the summer.
🚨 Avoid Scams: A notario público is not authorized to provide you with any legal services related to immigration benefits. Only an attorney or an accredited representative working for a Department of Justice (DOJ)-recognized organization can give you legal advice.

Our office is in full holiday season mode! 🎄🎄🎄We are happy to inform our clients that they will have a stronger success in their U-Visa case. We successfully obtained a new U-Visa certification for our clients today! But wait, what was wrong with the old one?

Our client obtained their U-Visa certification on their own - we 100% applaud their proactivity!! BUT their U-Visa certification had mistakes in the content of the form and mistakes about the incidents of the event that would have made it difficult for USCIS to grant their U-Visa case.

You may be eligible for a U-Visa if you are the survivor of qualifying criminal activity. You may also qualify if you were near the incident or the spouse, child or parent of a person who was a survivor of a crime. In many cases, a U-Visa allows an immigrant to have a path to a work permit, residency and eventually citizenship.

A U.S. citizen from one day to the next. It does not happen often, but it happens.

Our 16 year-old client was entitled to be a U.S. citizen from birth. He was living in the U.S. "without status" since he was 3 months old.

A "legal assistant" from a different office had misled the family telling them he needed to become a resident first - discouraging the family from taking action.

This week our client obtained "Acquired Citizenship" from . Never again will he or his family worry about his immigration status.
