This $5-Billion Moon-Themed Resort Is Coming To Las Vegas!

The Canadian company, Moon World Resorts Inc. has galactic ambitions to remedy the lack of celestial-themed spots on The Strip. Island vibes and stiff drinks are just a boat ride away. Accessible aboard the Catalina Express—with ferry launches in Long Beach and San Pedro. Nosh on egg-topped avocado toast at Café Metropole before following the beachfront path to the Catalina Casino, an Art Deco auditorium whose ambience is mostly accessible via walking tours. Sink into the sand and take in the ocean views with a frosty Buffalo Milk cocktail at the nearby Descanso Beach Club, where you can legally drink on the beach. The classy Catalina Island Museum dives into the century-old vacation destination’s fascinating history, which includes Chicago Cubs spring training and proto- CIA military exercises. For dinner, savor seafood dishes on the dockside patio at Bluewater Grill Avalon. Before you leave island life, grab a sticky cinnamon bun from the Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co.

Paradise Cove in Malibu is a public beach in front of a privately-owned facility by the same name. The property and the restaurant has surfboards all around and the outside seating area has wooden lounge chairs, palm trees, and thatched umbrellas that almost feels Hawaiian.

Ironically though with all the surfboards around the owners banned surfing for years until the California Coastal Commission forced them to allow it. The CCC also forced the owners to quit charging fees for visitors who park outside the property or get dropped off and walk in to the beach. They still charge for parking on-site.

You’ll find cultural glories inside the library’s impressive book collection—the bequest of entrepreneur Henry E. Huntington—but the Huntington’s true highlights are outdoors in its vast jigsaw of botanical gardens, arguably the most glorious in the entire Los Angeles region. The acres and acres of public gardens are divided into a variety of themes, including a prickly desert garden, a serene Japanese garden and bamboo forest, as well as a recently-expanded assembly of Chinese pagodas, pavilions and bridges.

NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM.

The NHM’s original Beaux Arts structure was the first museum building in L.A., opening in 1913 with Exposition Park itself. The more recent Otis Booth Pavilion welcomes visitors into the museum with a six-story glass entrance featuring a stunning, 63-foot-long fin whale skeleton. Highlights include the gem and mineral hall, spectacularly presented dinosaur and mammal fossils, the 3.5-acre urban nature gardens and “Becoming L.A.: Stories of Nature and Culture,” which examines the Los Angeles region’s history from Native Americans to the present day.

THORNHILL BROOME BEACH
The Pacific Coast Highway has some of the most breathtaking stops on the drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco, but a unique spot may be Malibu's best-kept secret.

Los Angeles definitely has its share of quirky spots, including a Bigfoot-themed bar in Atwater Village. Pouring drinks since 1999, Bigfoot Lodge is a destination to be experienced! A beloved watering hole on the Eastside, Bigfoot Lodge offers a woodsy, rustic escape for city dwellers. From the log cabin décor to the taxidermy on the walls, it's definitely not the ambiance you'd typically expect of a bar in Los Angeles.
