CalABLE accounts are now allowing up to $16,000 in contributions, which is an increase from the previous limit of $15,000. Additionally, employed owners of a CalABLE account can contribute an amount equal to their current year gross income up to an additional $12,880. The amount of $100,000 total in a CalABLE amount remains the limit with no effect on receiving SSI benefits. This is mind boggling. I beg you to just do it. I would be honored to help you. Even if it isn't my firm, please just do it. Your family is going to have enough on their shoulders, so do it for them.

Hsieh built a company that offered generous employee benefits, including full health-care coverage, free lunches and on-site life coaches. I was surprised someone so thoughtful about creating a great environment for employees would not have his personal affairs in order for his family.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will have the $1,200 COVID-19 relief checks automatically deposited in their bank accounts.

Some news from the beginning of the year that I would like to share: Effective January 1, 2020, California has increased the probate limits from $150,000. If the gross value of a decedent's real and personal property does not exceed $166,250, then a formal probate can be avoided. See Probate Code section 13100.

Have you heard about ABLE accounts? California's program, CalABLE is finally open to the public! ABLE accounts are incredible tools to help families with special needs. Read about them here:

ABLE accounts are tax advantaged savings accounts for individuals with disabilities and their families. This act was passed in 2014.
