Starting on June 1, 2023, all criminal court hearings in the municipal courts and District Court will be held in person. Defendants will be required to appear in person. Special permission to appear via zoom MAY be granted under some circumstances.

Beware! Anyone appearing in court in Cowlitz County on Zoom appearances, there is a scammer logging in as an attorney participant. Most recently he is listing the name as Atty Jed Stone. This person is watching the court hearings and taking phone numbers of people that are appearing on the docket. This person later calls the numbers claiming to be an attorney standing in for their real attorney and requesting money for some fabricated reason or another. Sometimes he tells the client that he is getting the charges dismissed, but the person first needs to send him money via cash app. This happened today to a client of ours, and it resulted in the court ordering a warrant for our client because he relied on what this scammer said and thought he didn't have to appear for his hearing. We were able to resolve this warrant for our client quickly. We NEVER require money from clients via cash app to get their cases dismissed. The court doesn't receive payment of fines or fees through cash app.
