Impending jury nullification…

A judge ruled Friday that federal prosecutors can't seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, who is charged with the killing of a UnitedHealthcare executive.

U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett threw out two of the charges against Mangione, who is accused of gunning down Brian Thompson outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel in December 2024.

The remaining charges carry a potential sentence of life in prison. Mangione also faces state murder and weapons charges in a separate case, but they don't carry the potential of the death penalty.
