Unfortunately nursing home abuse and more often neglect is real and rampant. The system is broken. I receive calls every day from folks who never thought it could happen to their mother/father/brother/uncle/aunt/etc. And it happens to young people too. Folks often forget about the catastrophically injured who live in nursing homes. One of the saddest cases of nursing home neglect I ever saw dealt with a gentleman who suffered an on the job injury in his 40s that left him with no option but nursing home care once his insurance was exhausted. Despite the efforts of his loving family, he developed a stage IV pressure sore that became infected and killed him. Be vigilant.
