Today at our Black History Month Luncheon, we honored the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of the Little Rock Nine, whose bravery during the integration of Little Rock Central High School changed the course of history and continues to shape our community today.

A heartfelt thank you to Park Ranger Jazmyn for delivering such an impactful and powerful presentation on the Little Rock Nine, the struggle for integration, and the lasting effects their actions still have on our nation and our work.

And thank you to Nick's Catering for providing our staff with a delicious lunch as we gathered to reflect, learn, and honor this important legacy.

We are always grateful to have community partners come and speak to our office during our lunch and learn program.

Today we heard from Denaro Cook, who spent 18 years in prison and now works to help others in our community chart a different path.

We also heard from Dr. Fitz Hill and the students from the Arkansas Baptist College META24/DYS step-down program partnership.

This program allows them to receive the job readiness skills, trade & entrepreneurial track training, accelerated high school diploma, & college pathway.

In honor of Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we wanted to highlight the hard work of DPA Corinne Kwapis. She recently worked on and secured a plea in a Trafficking of a Minor case.

In October of 2025, Okera Leonard was sentenced to 22.5 years for Trafficking of a Minor (F/Y). Leonard lured the minor victim over Instagram and coordinated for the minor to engage in sexual activity with adult men in exchange for money. He is also serving 12 years for his federal sentence on Transportation of a Minor for Criminal Sexual Activity for an unrelated victim.

Special thanks to the Little Rock Police Department, the Children’s Protection Center, The Genesis Project, Centers for Youth and Families, the US Attorneys Office for the Eastern District of Arkansas, and the FBI Little Rock Office that helped make this resolution possible.
