A NOTARY STAMP DOESN’T MEAN A DOCUMENT IS LEGITIMATE.
Did you know that?
It’s a common misconception that once a document has been notarized, everything in it has been verified and approved.
That’s not what notarization means.
A notary’s responsibility is to perform the required checks for the notarial act, including verifying the signer’s identity and following the appropriate legal procedures.
But a notary does not automatically verify whether the information in the document is accurate, whether the transaction is legitimate, or whether the agreement protects your interests.
So, what is YOUR responsibility before signing?
✔️ Read the entire document. Never sign something you haven’t reviewed or don’t understand.
✔️ Verify who you’re dealing with. Independently confirm the identity and legitimacy of the person or company requesting your signature.
✔️ Check the details. Make sure names, dates, amounts, and other important information are correct.
✔️ Ask questions before signing. If something seems unclear, rushed, or suspicious, don’t feel pressured to proceed.
✔️ Seek legal guidance when necessary. A notary cannot tell you whether an agreement is fair, legally appropriate, or in your best interest.
✔️ Keep copies of your important documents. Know what you signed, who received it, and where your records are stored.
Here’s what my background in fraud prevention has taught me:
Fraud prevention doesn’t begin with a stamp. It begins with awareness, verification, and informed decisions.
A notarization is an important safeguard in the document ex*****on process, but it is not a substitute for your own due diligence.
At Methodica Notary & Signing Services, I believe protecting the integrity of a signing means doing my part professionally while helping clients understand the importance of doing theirs.
Before you sign, read. Verify. Understand.
