This past Saturday, Jeremy Ruman (legal assistant to Partner Art Weinshank) and Denice Hull (our New Milford office administrator) laced up their cycling shoes and participated once again in Ride the State: Connecticut.

Organized by the nonprofit East Coast Greenway Alliance, the ride raises funds to close critical trail gaps and create safer, protected spaces for cyclists.

Sponsored by Cramer & Anderson, Jeremy and Denice completed the 67-mile ride from New Haven to Hartford to emphasize the importance of cycling safety and honor our late colleague, Partner David Burke.

He died as the result of injuries from a tragic cycling accident in March 2016. An avid and highly experienced cyclist, he was riding near Bantam Lake on Route 209 in Morris when his front tire struck a pothole, throwing him into a guardrail.

The firm was proud to support veteran Paralegal Denise Maytas and her family’s β€œTeam Godzilla” at the 2026 Walk MS event on June 7 in Simsbury.

For more than a decade, Denise and her family have dedicated themselves to this vital cause, with her son Mike currently serving as team captain. To honor that dedication and aid the people and organizations that help improve a person’s life with MS, the firm supported the squad with a $250 donation.

Team Godzilla finished in the Top 10 of fund-raisers, capturing 7th place overall by raising an impressive $2,575.

As of June 8, the Simsbury event had raised $64,436.90 toward its $92,000 goal, continuing the urgent fight to fund cutting-edge research, advocate for change, and provide life-changing services for those living with multiple sclerosis.

As warmer weather brings more cyclists to the scenic routes of the Litchfield Hills, sharing the road safely becomes a matter of shared legal and personal responsibility. Navigating these winding, narrow roads requires a clear understanding of Connecticut traffic laws from both motorists and cyclists to prevent serious accidents.

Our latest article breaks down the essential rules of the road designed to keep everyone safe:

β€’ For Motorists: Under Connecticut law, bicycles are treated as vehicles. Drivers must grant cyclists at least three feet of safe passing distance and remain patient on blind curves or narrow stretches where visibility is limited.

β€’ For Cyclists: Cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as motor vehicles. This means obeying all traffic signals, riding with the flow of traffic, and utilizing proper signaling and high-visibility gear to ensure they are seen.

At Cramer & Anderson, our advocacy for cycling safety is not just professionalβ€”it is deeply personal. In March 2016, we lost a cherished colleague, friend, and brilliant legal advocate, Partner David P. Burke, in a tragic cycling accident.

On June 27, legal assistant Jeremy Ruman and New Milford office administrator Denice Hull will once again participate in the Connecticut Ride the State event to remember and honor David Burke and emphasize the importance of cycling safety.

Safety on our roads depends on mutual respect and strict adherence to the law. Read the full guide on how to safely navigate cycling season in Litchfield County: https://www.crameranderson.com/shared-roads-shared-responsibility-navigating-cycling-in-the-litchfield-hills/

What a great evening last Friday at the Mayor’s Ball in Danbury!

Cramer & Anderson was a proud sponsor of this tradition that returned after a 16-year hiatus and raised funds for the Danbury Museum & Historical Society and the CT Education Foundation, as it also celebrated the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Mayor Roberto Alves explained in a post that the CT Education Foundation has long been committed to expanding opportunities for Danbury students, and the Mayor’s Ball provides support for the Danbury Police Cadets program and the launch of the Danbury Fire Explorers this fall.

Cramer & Anderson and our Danbury office in particular were well represented at at the ball, which had more than 370 guests. Among those joining Partner Dan Casagrande were Partners John Tower, Ted Backer, Lisa M. Rivas, Esq. and Joseph Mortelliti, and Attorney Keith Rado.

Attorney Casagrande was appointed to serve as Danbury Corporation Counsel by Mayor Alves following the 2023 municipal election, after having served as an outside Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Danbury since 1990.

His Municipal Law work for Cramer & Anderson clients has earned Attorney Casagrande recognition in the 2026 edition of the Best Lawyers in America and on the Connecticut Super Lawyers list.

Cramer & Anderson secured a landmark victory with statewide implications for charitable organizations and municipalities April 24 when a New Britain Superior Court judge issued a decision in a long-running tax exemption appeal affirming that The Caring Community of CT, Inc. can rightfully claim a charitable purpose tax exemption.

The case centered on whether a nonprofit providing 24-hour residential care for individuals with severe mental health disorders and intellectual disabilities qualifies for a charitable purpose tax exemption under Connecticut General Statutes Β§ 12-81(7).

The Town of Colchester argued that the organization was not β€œcharitable” because it was nearly entirely state-funded and therefore β€œself-supporting.” However, the judge resoundingly rejected this argument, noting that under Public Act 22-73, the operation of such housing is deemed an β€œexclusively charitable purpose” regardless of the funding source.

Partner Daniel Casagrande was first retained for the case in 2016, and the recent appeals trial was successfully handled by Partner John Tower and Attorney Keith Rado.

Attorneys Casagrande and Tower are both honored in the 2026 edition of the Best Lawyers in America for their work in Municipal Law and Litigation – Municipal, and both are Connecticut Super Lawyers for their work in State, Local, and Municipal law.
