Did you know that today, August 26, 2026, is Women's Equality Day?

It commemorates the 1920 adoption of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed American women the right to vote.

Designated in 1971 by Representative Bella Abzug and established by a 1973 congressional resolution. It is an official day of observance, but not a federal holiday (government offices and banks remain open).

In 1959, The Miami Herald asked: “Do Law Clients Like a Woman?” The article spotlighted Nina Miglionico, then president of the National Association of Women Lawyers, as she addressed the persistent bias women attorneys faced—and the growing recognition that women could serve clients in every area of law.

More than six decades later, the question itself reminds us why organizations like FAWL matter. We honor the trailblazers who persisted, led, and expanded the possibilities for women in the legal profession—and we remain committed to building a profession where women lawyers are valued, supported, and recognized without qualification.
