After an injury, the details can become important.

Keep copies of medical records, bills, photographs, insurance correspondence and receipts for injury-related expenses. It may also help to document missed work and how the injury affects your daily activities.

Avoid discussing the incident or your recovery on social media. Even an innocent post may be misunderstood or taken out of context.

Before signing documents or accepting a settlement, understand what rights may be affected.

📝 BUSINESS AGREEMENTS: GET IT IN WRITING

A handshake may begin a business relationship, but a clear written agreement can help protect it.

A strong agreement should clearly address:

➡️ Each party’s responsibilities
➡️ Payment terms and deadlines
➡️ Ownership of work or materials
➡️ How changes will be approved
➡️ What happens if the relationship ends

Clear expectations can reduce misunderstandings and give everyone something reliable to reference.

Before finalizing a North Carolina divorce, make sure you understand what may happen to unresolved financial claims.

Claims involving marital property, debt division or spousal support may be affected—or even lost—if they are not properly raised before the divorce judgment is entered.

A divorce ends the marriage, but it does not automatically resolve every related issue.

Getting legal guidance early may help you avoid unintended consequences.

⚖️ SEPARATION AND DIVORCE ARE NOT THE SAME THING

In North Carolina, living separately does not automatically end a marriage.

To file for an absolute divorce, spouses generally must live in separate residences for at least one year and one day, with at least one spouse intending the separation to be permanent.

Other matters—including property division, support and custody—may require separate attention. Understanding those issues before a divorce is finalized can be important.

Every situation is different. Speak with an attorney about your circumstances.

📁 Preparing for a legal consultation?

Bringing the right information can help make the conversation more productive.

Consider gathering:
➡️ Court papers and notices
➡️ Relevant contracts or agreements
➡️ A timeline of important events
➡️ Financial or medical records related to the matter
➡️ A list of your questions and concerns

You don’t need to have everything figured out before contacting an attorney. That’s what the consultation is for.

🍂 A new month is a good time for a legal check-in.

Are important agreements documented?
Is your will current?
Have your family circumstances changed?
Are you postponing a legal concern that needs attention?

You don’t have to wait for a situation to become a crisis before asking questions. A little preparation today may prevent greater uncertainty later.

Family law reminder: pause before you post.

When a divorce, custody dispute or other family matter is ongoing, social media can add unnecessary complications.

Before posting, ask:
➡️ Could this be misunderstood?
➡️ Does it involve my children?
➡️ Would I be comfortable seeing it presented in court?
➡️ Am I reacting emotionally rather than thoughtfully?

When in doubt, keep the details private and discuss your concerns directly with your attorney.
