During our years in the real estate industry, we’ve learned that the appeal of buying a home is much more than a monetary investment for our clients. It offers a sense of security and stability that is hard to find elsewhere.

With rent prices skyrocketing, owning a home also means having stable payments, avoiding rent hikes, and setting up future generations for success.

SG LAW is grateful for being able to facilitate the gift of homeownership for our clients.

It might be hard to say “estate mistakes” four times fast … but it’s fairly easy to make four of them fast 🤔 That’s why we’re sharing four common mistakes you’ll want to avoid:

🖋️ Failing to include power of attorney - A power of attorney names someone you trust to act in your stead should you become incapable of making important decisions.
🖋️ Misunderstanding your estate plan - Take the time to read through and understand the plan, what it entails, and what will happen when it is put in motion.
🖋️ Forgetting to update it as circumstances change - We suggest you revise your plan at least every 5 years to make sure your current wishes are reflected and followed.
🖋️ Failing to fund revocable trusts - Assets owned by the trust are protected from being tied up in probate court.

Have questions about estate planning or thinking it’s time to review your current plan? Don’t hesitate to reach out! We’re here to help.

There’s no question that navigating a divorce can be extremely difficult; there are a number of important considerations to keep in mind as the dust settles — with one of them being your estate plan.

With that in mind, we wanted to share a helpful overview of estate planning steps that those undergoing a divorce will need to take:

✅ Revising Your Will and Trust - Revisit the recipient of your assets in your will and trust. Confirm current guardianship requests for minor children.
✅ Updating Beneficiaries - Review and amend beneficiaries on life insurance, bank accounts, and retirement funds to align with your current wishes.
✅ Changing Powers of Attorney - Consider revoking powers of attorney granted to your ex-spouse. If you opt to do so, be sure to appoint a trusted individual in their place.

If you’ve recently undergone a divorce, know that we are here to help you update your estate plan with as much ease and efficiency as possible. Reach out anytime.
