Ever wonder about those extended warranties that you buy for your vehicle at purchase? Here are a few tips on these.
1. NEGOTIATE. The Selling Dealer often marks these up dramatically. So, a $4,000.00 warranty may be $1,500.00 in profit to the dealer. So negotiate on this. If you want the warranty you can probably cut the price.
2. MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. If you are buying a new vehicle, check your manufacturer warranty. Remember, the extended warranty pays NOTHING until after the manufacturer warranty expires. So the purchase of an extended warranty with a Kia/Hyundai that may have a 100k mileage manufacturer warranty may provide very little coverage.
3. FOLLOW your maintenance schedule and keep all your receipts. If you need a major repair they will check this. They will also inspect the engine and look for any indication of low oil, sludge or failed maintenance. ANY indication of this and they will deny your claim. So not only did you waste the money you paid, you will also likely lose the 2 to 3 weeks or more that it takes to compile and submit your claim and wait on an answer.
4. REMEMBER that you have the warranty. They count on you forgetting because if you don't even think about the warranty, you won't make a claim. This is also the reason you won't get any maintenance reminders. They don't want to do anything that might generate a claim they have to pay.
5. CANCEL. Did you know that you can cancel the warranty and receive a refund? Virtually all contracts have this option but it is pro-rated so the sooner the cancellation, the greater the refund. But this assumes you made no claims.
6. TRADE. If you trade your vehicle, you may still have some value left on the contract. If so, cancel it. If you don't guess who might? The Dealer that you traded the vehicle to may cancel and get the refund. Or possibly your lender. You may forget about the warranty. But they don't.

Look before you buy that next used car, especially in the number one state for flood vehicles: Texas....

Century Motors of South Florida owner Frank Fuzy has bought about 30,000 cars during his 30 years in business. He said he has never bought a flood car.

Many of you knew that I was spending more time in Austin because we had a condo in the downtown area. Well, Princess finally retired and I have moved my office to Austin. My new address is 111 Congress Suite 400, Austin, TX 78701. All of my email fax numbers and phone numbers remain the same. I will continue to do the same work, although probably more in Austin than in Houston. I will still take cases in Houston and appreciate your referrals.

This article help identify a good trial lawyer. While your attorney need not be a subject matter expert, he does need to know the basics of your type of case. For a securities case (like in the article) you need someone with experience in the investment field and the arbitration process. They also need an expert that can take your statements and explain and quantify your losses.

The same thing applies to vehicle (and other machines) law. Find an attorney that can go to trial and knows the law but also can put together an explanation of an often confusing set of mechanical facts.

Someday you may need to sue someone, and you'll need a good lawyer with the right experience. Here's how to find one.

Interested in buying a travel trailer or an RV? Well you don’t get a warranty that covers the whole trailer. You get a package of warranties that covers each individual component: from the water heater to the axle to the slide out. This is a package of the warranty materials from a travel trailer case I’m working on. This is also the reason that it is so hard to get a repair done. Every part comes from a different source. No RV dealer can keep anything close to these parts in stock.

OK, Facebook is now the 'bad guy' because they shared your information. Hey!! Facebook is free but it makes a lot of money and just about everything you do on Facebook is shared with someone or something else.
Do you really expect privacy? Then don't use Facebook, credit cards, or your computer. Because lenders, insurance companies, Google (Maps) and your favorite dating site USE the information you give them when you ask to use their services.
I was in a deposition last week. My client was asked all sorts of back ground questions about lawsuits, mortgages, UCC liens, and insurance claims. The defense attorney (as is common) looked up all of this public information through a subscription service and surprised my client with all of this (mostly irrelevant) information.
This post is not to defend Facebook. It is just a reminder that when the Saturday Night LIve Church Lady wagged her finger and said 'God is Watching.' She really meant to say that 'The Internet is Watching' everything you do.

Home Title Lock. Another phantom threat from those tricky people at Lifelock who brought you identity theft. And you probably already have insurance that covers ‘threats’ like real estate document forgeries. It’s called title insurance and you probably have it if you went through a legitimate real estate transaction. If a reputable lender is involved in a fraudulent transaction it’s almost certain that there will be title insurance. The title insurance will pick up this cost. So once again, LifeLock is selling you something you absolutely do not need.
