As we prepare for the potential of some impactful winter weather this weekend, we wanted to remind you of some best practices you can do ahead of the weather.
- Assemble an emergency kit with non-perishable food, water, medicine, batteries, blankets, phone chargers, matches, toiletries, a first-aid kit and a battery-powered weather radio. Have extra pet food and a warm shelter for pets.
- Make sure you have backup lighting and a way to charge your phones in the event of a power outage. Have a plan for your necessary medical devices, such as oxygen tanks and cpap machines.
- Check emergency heating sources such as fireplaces and wood stoves. Refill your propane tanks.
- Travel this weekend may be hazardous. Make necessary trips in advance, and if you need to be on the roads, be sure to check your tires and wiper blades before inclement weather hits.
- Check on any elderly or mobility-impaired friends and neighbors before and after the event.
