We have been so busy that we haven’t had a chance to introduce our newest employee, Brady Phillips.

Brady is a 2026 college graduate from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a degree in public relations and a minor in music business. She was born and raised in Lewisburg and is excited to be back in her hometown.

Over the years, Brady has built a foundation in public relations, and relationship building through hands on experience in hospitality roles and now in the legal setting. Brady worked for us last summer and we are all so happy she is now with us full-time. Brady is in charge of our social media/marketing and is now working in the real estate side of the law practice as well as in Southern Charm Title.

Outside of her professional life, she loves all things music, fashion, theater, tennis, running, singing in her church choir, and now cheering on the Vols from Lewisburg. She hopes to make a difference in her community by getting involved, and helping Lewisburg grow without losing the rich history of the hometown everyone knows and loves.

Today’s myth: “Only older adults need estate planning.”

This is one of the most common misconceptions regarding estate planning. Estate planning is about preparedness, not age. Serious illness, accidents, or sudden death can happen at any age. Without an estate plan, important decisions about finances, healthcare and property may be determined by state law rather than your preferences. Family members may also face delays, legal expenses and uncertainty during an already difficult time.

Estate planning includes (but is not limited to):
- a financial power of attorney: allowing someone you trust to manage financial decisions if you are unable.
- a healthcare power of attorney: allowing someone to make medical decisions if you cannot.
- an advance healthcare directive: explaining your medical treatment preferences.
- a will: designating who will get your belongings.

Young adults often have more assets than they realize. This can include:
- bank accounts
- retirement accounts
- personal belongings
- vehicles
- investments
- digital assets

Young married couples may need to decide new planning needs:
- decide who inherits property
- name each other for financial/healthcare decision making
- plan for children
- clarify how jointly and individually owned assets should be handled

In all seriousness, trust that your attorney knows what they’re talking about. Consult your attorney before the internet. Scrolling on the internet can be a slippery slope when going about finding information, and a lot of times it’s incorrect (based on TN laws).

Myth Monday has arrived again!✨

Today’s Myth: “Handwritten or verbal notes are enough to legally validate my estate planning.”

This statement is incorrect. Without proper ex*****on and formatting, a handwritten note may express a person’s wishes, however they may lack legal validity, clarity and evidential strength to ensure those wishes are carried out. Without these, the authenticity and integrity of the handwritten note can be challenged.

It is common to have questions when stepping into a law office. We want to make your experience as smooth and stress free as possible!

Along with our Myth Mondays, we are starting an FAQ series. Stay tuned on Fridays to find answers to questions you may have!

The FAQ for today: “How do I prepare for my Last Will and Testament Consultation?”

Answer: The short answer is, not much! You don’t need physical copies of anything. (We actually have a packet for you to get started.) Just know how you want your assets to be distributed and the contact information of those recipients. You’ll also need to know who you’ll name as the executor/executrix of your will (That is the person who oversees your estate upon your death.) and an alternate executor/executrix. Finally, if something were to happen to you while you have minor children, who will take care of them?
