Arts Advocacy of WV

Arts Advocacy of WV A group of artists and arts organizations defending the future of funding for the arts in WV. We are arts advocates of West Virginia.

If you have ever felt chills when listening to a piece of music, laughed until it hurt at the theater, engaged in stimulating conversation after a film, or found solace in a photograph or painting, then you are an advocate for the arts. Your participation in this collective experience is why we do this important work. With arts funding in jeopardy at the state and national levels, now is the time

to call upon leadership to act. Our purpose is to generate support and funding for vital arts programming in our communities through grassroots organization. This page will be a forum for discussion of arts funding updates on the state and national level, articles related to the benefits of the arts, and promotion of the well being of individual arts organizations throughout the state. Partnership is key in this advocacy effort. If you or your organization would like to be involved in a leadership position on this page, please send us a message.

Thanks to the WV House and Senate for keeping this critical funding in their 2026 budget versions. We are hopeful that Governor Morrisey will sign off on this important arts funding for a thriving West Virginia. 💛💙

On behalf of all West Virginians who value the arts—and the children whose creativity and confidence are nurtured through arts education—Arts Advocacy of WV is calling for the reinstatement of the Lottery Education Fund line item for Grants for Competitive Arts Programs (former Line Item 12, Acct 62400) at the $1,000,000 level. This critical funding was removed during last year’s legislative session, and its absence is already being felt across our communities.

The future of the arts in West Virginia depends on this investment. Let’s restore it.
