The dangers of DIY Divorce. Sure you can do it. You and your spouse “agree” on everything and you get along. You’ve been separated for a while and it’s been smooth sailing. You both don’t want to pay a lawyer to do something that you and your spouse could handle for a few hundred bucks right? So WRONG. I don’t say this because I am a divorce attorney and have a stake in the game. I say this because I have “seen into the future.” A tightly written separation agreement is the only thing that you have when “% #* hits the fan.” Not us you say? Maybe you said the same thing about getting divorced in the first place? Sorry if that was harsh, but it’s the honest truth. The agreements that you find online don’t explain what you’re getting yourself into, nor do they contain the specifics you and your ex-spouse may need when you don’t agree. Consult with a lawyer for your own sanity in the uncertain future. The sad truth is that you’ll often spend a lot more time, money and energy on a modification action later.

Parental Kidnapping

Emergency Custody Case. We successfully filed for emergency custody of a child when her father, who resides out of state, refused to return the child to her mother. My client was granted temporary emergency custody and then jumped on the next flight to find her daughter. With the help of the police, Mother was reunited with her daughter late that same night. It’s not over, but at least we were able to return a young child back to her Mother’s care. This is why I do this kind of work.
