More Kudos for Meghan!

"Jim, want to thank you and your firm for once again taking care of me and my family. Complete dismissal of both charges (forgot to mention expired tags above) with only court fee ($89) down in Staunton just now!!!! In and out of the courts in under 30min."

We love it when our attorneys are recognized by our clients!

Great win today for ML attorney, Rachael Hammer. She tried resolving the case amicably and she tried to compromise. But opposing counsel was wholly unreasonable and dishonest. So, Rachel went after her and her client. If you don't take the carrot, you get the Hammer. Good job!

I LOVE it when I hear clients say nice things about ML Attorneys. Meghan Matulka has been winning awards and accolades for her criminal defense work for decades, but none of the awards are as nice as a kind word from someone she helped.

"I know how to avoid these circumstances better. If I am any dire circumstances again for any reason know who to tell first. Amazing experience."

Nice win for Meghan!
Sometimes a case may seem like no big deal, but anything involving criminal charges can have a devastating effect on the future of a young person. A criminal conviction can prevent them from getting accepted to college or joining the military or foreclosing certain careers altogether. Last week, ML Attorney, Meghan Matulka Represented a teenager who was alleged to have done a "burnout" after leaving a Cars & Coffee location (he was not attending the event, it was just bad luck to be there while a car club meeting was going on). The State Trooper was quite demanding on the prosecutor. But, Meghan was prepared with photos of a very bald tire, no marks on the ground, a failed inspection of the tire, and a receipt for the replacement tires. She successfully got the reckless driving misdemeanor amended to a non-moving violation infraction of defective equipment. Happy client. Happy parents. Happy attorney.

I want to thank everyone who has supported Magner Law over the years by nominating us and voting for us in the annual "Best of Loudoun" awards. We have won the award for best law firm twice and have been a finalist seven years straight. We are extremely proud of that recognition.

We made the decision not to participate this year. The contest is run by the local paper and unlike in years past, we were told that this year, we would have to nominate ourselves and we were strongly encouraged to buy advertising to support it. After nominating ourselves, we would then have to get everyone we knew to vote for us, every day, from multiple email addresses.

That is not an award, in my opinion. It's a marketing campaign. One that, frankly, none of us at Magner Law has time for. We are way too busy serving our clients.

Once again, we really, really appreciate everyone who nominated us and voted for us and and supported us over the past seven years. That means so much more to us than the actual awards ever did.

All:

I have decided to start the search for a new bank, both for myself and for the firm, and I am looking for recommendations.

I know that this will be a long, tedious process, but I have been with Sandy Spring Break for over a decade now but, they are in the middle of a merger to become a big bank, and have announced that they are letting all of the people that I have banking relationships with go. That's a clear signal that the bank really doesn't care about its small business clients anymore, and just wants to jump on the banking bandwagon of squeezing profits out of its customers.

I have said this many, many times, but individuals and small businesses should NEVER trust a big bank with your money. Ever. BofA, Chase, Citi,Navy Federal, Wells Fargo, PNC... all of them are absolutely horrible to their small business clients, and they all regularly get caught outright stealing from their customers.

I'll give you an example: when we were in the Pandemic, and the government announced the Payroll Protection Plan loans, most of the big banks opened a portal for their small business clients to apply for the loans, and then told most of them that the funds were gone within a day or two - gone to bigger companies ripping off the system.

Meanwhile, my banker at Sandy Spring called me at 8 pm on Sunday night before their portal opened and walked me through my application so that it could be automatically submitted first thing the following morning because she knew there was going to be a shortage of funds and that her small biz clients were going to get squeezed out. THAT'S the level of over-the-top service that has made me so loyal to Sandy Spring. But, with their recent merger, there is no room for that kind of service. It will be more profitable to screw us over and there won't be much I can do about it.

So, since she, and all of the other people who took care of me at the bank are going to be tossed out, and my future will be one of "I'm sorry, that's our policy" and "You can call our 800 number," it is time to make a change. I need a bank that needs me and my clients as much as I need them.

So... TLDR - looking for a small, community bank for myself and my firm, and that I can recommend to my business clients.

Magner Law, PC is a firm of many different faiths, but I believe that we each, no matter what our beliefs and practices are, deserve a time of rest and reflection; a time to be proud of what what we have accomplished throughout the year, a time to be hopeful about the future, and a time to be grateful for the people around us.

I, for one, am very grateful for the extremely dedicated attorneys and staff that have made Magner Law the best place I have ever worked. I am proud of all the firm has accomplished this year and the hard fought victories our attorneys have achieved for our clients. I am hopeful that we will continue to provide excellent service to our clients in the coming year, even if they won't always appreciate it.

But for a few days, you guys can relax and enjoy some quiet time with friends and family. No one has earned it more than you guys have.

See you on the other side!
