Legal Tip of the Month - What happens to my home if I die?

Most people assume their will takes care of it. It doesn’t. A will still requires probate. That means court involvement time, cost and a public process. In Jackson County, that can easily stretch months and sometimes longer depending on the situation.

But here’s the good news: there is a simple way to keep your house out of probate entirely. It’s called a beneficiary deed. A beneficiary deed allows you to name who gets your home when you pass away. When that happens, the property transfers automatically to them without probate. No court. No delay. No added expense.

We recently got my dad an entry into a car show to display his beautiful 1953 Studebaker truck. While it was originally supposed to be at Union Station, we still had a blast showing off his vintage pride and joy.
