🦆 Ducks in a Row

If something unexpected happened tomorrow, would your family know where to find the documents they'll need?

It's not enough to have an estate plan—you also need to make sure the people you've chosen to help you know where important documents are stored and how to access them.

Consider keeping these items together in a secure, easy-to-find location:

📁 Will or Trust documents
📁 Durable Power of Attorney
📁 Healthcare Directive
📁 Insurance policies
📁 Property deeds and important financial information

Having everything organized today can save your loved ones countless hours of stress, uncertainty, and frustration during an already difficult time.

Estate planning isn't just about preparing documents—it's about preparing your family.

Is one of your ducks still out of line? Now is a great time to get everything organized.

What We Heard This Week

Every week, families ask us thoughtful questions as they begin planning for the future. We thought we'd start sharing some of them—because if one person is wondering, chances are others are too.

This week someone asked us...

"If I already have a Will, do I really need a Trust?"

The answer is... it depends.

Every family's situation is unique, and the right plan depends on your goals, the assets you own, and how you want things handled for your loved ones.

That's why we spend time getting to know each family's story before making recommendations.

Have an estate planning question you've always wondered about? Leave it in the comments or send us a message—it might be featured in a future What We Heard This Week post!

Estate Planning Checklist

Have you organized these five important documents?

Getting your affairs in order doesn't have to happen all at once. Sometimes, taking one small step today can make a big difference for your loved ones tomorrow.

Here are five important documents every adult should know where to find:

✅ Will or Trust
✅ Durable Power of Attorney
✅ Healthcare Power of Attorney/Advance Directive
✅ Life Insurance & Beneficiary Information
✅ Property Deeds and Vehicle Titles

If you're unsure where these documents are—or if you don't have them yet—you're not alone. Estate planning is about creating peace of mind, and it starts with being organized.

Which of these do you already have in place? Let us know in the comments!

Ducks in a Row Tip

When was the last time you reviewed your beneficiaries?
It's one of the simplest estate planning tasks—but also one of the most overlooked.

Life changes, and your beneficiary designations should change with it.
It may be time for a review if you've recently:
💍 Gotten married or divorced
👶 Welcomed a child or grandchild
💼 Changed jobs or retirement plans
💔 Lost a loved one
🏡 Experienced a major life change

Remember, beneficiary designations on retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and many financial accounts often take precedence over what's written in your Will.

Taking just a few minutes to review them today can help ensure your assets go to the people you intend—and save your family unnecessary confusion later.

Sometimes, keeping your ducks in a row is as simple as making sure the names on your accounts still reflect your wishes.

Need help making sure your entire estate plan is working together? We're here to help.

A Day at Paths

Every family's story begins with a conversation.

At Paths Law Firm, we know that estate planning isn't just about documents—it's about listening, understanding your goals, and helping you create a plan that brings peace of mind.

Whether you're planning for the future, protecting your loved ones, or simply asking questions, every consultation starts the same way: with a conversation centered on you.

Behind every Will, Trust, or Power of Attorney is a family looking for guidance—and we're honored to be part of that journey.

Thank you for trusting us with some of life's most important decisions. 💙

Estate Planning Myth: "My kids will automatically be able to handle my finances if something happens to me."

It's a common assumption—but it's not how the law works.

Even if your children are responsible, trustworthy, and want to help, they don't automatically have the legal authority to access your bank accounts, pay your bills, or manage your finances if you become incapacitated.

Without the proper legal documents, your loved ones may have to go through a court process to obtain the authority needed to act on your behalf. That can take time, create additional expenses, and add unnecessary stress during an already difficult situation.

A Durable Power of Attorney allows you to choose someone you trust to manage your financial affairs if you're unable to do so yourself.

It's one of the simplest documents in an estate plan—but one of the most important.

💙 Planning ahead isn't about expecting something to happen. It's about making life easier for the people who would be there to help if it did.

Let's have a little fun...

When it comes to getting your ducks in a row, what's one thing you've been meaning to do—but just haven't gotten around to yet?

Maybe it's:
📄 Creating a Will
📁 Setting up a Trust
✍️ Naming a Power of Attorney
❤️ Completing a Healthcare Directive
📋 Updating your beneficiaries
🗂️ Organizing important documents

You're not alone! We all have something on our to-do list that keeps getting pushed to "someday."

The good news? Taking just one small step today can make a huge difference for your loved ones tomorrow.

What's one thing on your "Ducks in a Row" checklist you've been putting off?

No judgment—we're all about progress, not perfection. You might even inspire someone else to take that first step, too!

Happy Friday! 💙
