Bail Bond Scams and what you need to know!
Scams have hit again… this time, involving people impersonating Bail Bond Companies. There are several ways that scammers are doing this, but we will highlight a couple so that you don’t become a victim.
Scenario #1- The caller makes contact with an inmate who was just released from jail via phone call and states to the recipient that they need to collect a specified amount of money on top of what they have already paid. The caller will use real name bonding companies and individual’s names who actually work there. The scammer will state that the recipient of the call needs to send the money through Cash App, or other compatible cash apps that are available, in order to avoid being jailed once again.
Scenario #2- The caller makes contact with a parent or grandparent stating that a family member has been arrested. They will request the same type of payment as listed in scenario #1 in order for the person that is named to be released from jail.
Bail bond scams are harder to spot when you’re in the middle of a crisis. If someone you know is in jail, they can wait a few more minutes while you cover your bases and make sure you’re working with a reputable bail bond agent.
