As the midpoint of the year approaches, it is a good time to pause and consider whether recent life changes may affect your current family law arrangements.

Many people experience significant transitions without realizing their agreements, court orders, or legal plans may need updating.

Here are common life events that may warrant a legal check-in:

✅ New legal partnerships or marriages - Entering a new legal partnership or marriage can affect custody dynamics, financial obligations, and more.
✅ Changes in income or employment - Significant income increases or decreases, changes in benefits, or self-employment income can affect child or spousal support calculations and disclosure requirements.
✅ Relocation or travel changes - Moving across city, county, or state lines can trigger notice requirements, jurisdictional issues, or court approval depending on existing agreements.
✅ Health issues or caregiving responsibilities - Serious illness, injury, disability, or new caregiving duties for a child or family member can affect availability, financial stability, and decision-making responsibilities.

Taking proactive steps now can help reduce stress, avoid disputes, and ensure your legal documents remain aligned with your goals. That is where we come in. We are here to help ensure you’re legally protected and that your arrangements continue to reflect your current situation.

Every June 14th, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes on Flag Day. While we’re all familiar with the United States’ flag, we might not know all of the history behind this symbol.

To celebrate, we wanted to share a few fun facts about the history of the flag that might surprise you:

🔹 The current 50-star design was created by a 17-year-old. Robert G. Heft of Lancaster, Ohio, submitted the design as a high school project in 1958. It was chosen by President Eisenhower out of more than 3,000 submissions in 1960.

🔹 There have been 27 official versions of the flag. Twenty-five of those changes were solely to update the number of stars every time a new state joined the Union. The star additions were admitted on July 4th, and, together, they give us a rich visual history of the country's growth over time.

🔹 The colors for the flag have taken on their own meanings over the years. Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress in 1774, suggested that red represents hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue stands for vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

🔹 Six American flags have been planted on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin were the first, but five additional Apollo missions have also left a flag on the lunar surface.

🔹 The current design is the longest-running version in history. No new states have been added since Hawaii joined the union in 1959, making this the most enduring flag design the country has ever had.

Wishing you a wonderful Flag Day filled with pride and appreciation for the history behind the flag we share.

There's even more to celebrate today! 🎉🎉

June 12 is also Loving Day, marking the 1967 Supreme Court decision in Loving v. Virginia, which struck down laws banning in*******al marriage across the country. The case—brought by Richard and Mildred Loving—affirmed that the freedom to marry is a fundamental right, and it reshaped American family law for generations to come.
As a firm that believes in the dignity of every family we serve, we're glad to mark a day that moved our country toward equality under the law.

Today we recognize Women Veterans Day, marking the 1948 law that first gave women permanent, full status in the U.S. Armed Forces. The women who served then opened doors for every servicewoman since.
At Bateman Law Group, this one's personal. We're proud to count women veterans on our own team. Thank you, Aimee, Sarah, Temi, and Eia—for your service and for all you bring to our firm.

To every woman who has worn the uniform: thank you.

As we reach the midpoint of the year, it is a good time to pause and ask: Does your estate plan still reflect your current wishes and circumstances?

Here are a few important questions to consider:

🔹 Have you experienced a major life change? Marriage, divorce, remarriage, the birth or adoption of a child or grandchild, a death in the family, purchasing a new home, starting a new business, or retirement can all impact how your plan operates.

🔹 Do your decision-makers not align with your wishes anymore? Your executor, trustee, and powers of attorney should be individuals who are still willing and able to serve when needed.

🔹 Could your assets and beneficiary designations use a quick review? Retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and property titles should align with your will or trust to avoid unintended outcomes.

🔹 Has it simply been a while since you checked in on your plan? Even without major life changes, estate plans should still be reviewed periodically to remain current with evolving laws and aligned with your long-term goals.

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”, then do not hesitate to contact us to schedule a review of your estate plan. We are here to help you keep everything aligned and up to date.

We are officially approaching the halfway point of the year, making it a great time to pause and ask: Are your legal documents still aligned with your business today?

As businesses grow and evolve, foundational agreements do not always keep pace. Outdated terms can quietly create unnecessary risk. Clear, up-to-date documents help prevent disputes, protect your interests, and support long-term stability. Some documents to review are:

🔸Operating Agreements
🔸Partnership or Shareholder Agreements
🔸Vendor Contracts
🔸Employer Agreements
🔸Workplace Policies
🔸Client Contracts

If it has been a while since your last review, contact us to ensure your legal foundation keeps pace with your growth.
