Hi everyone, with so much uncertainty about the near future and people losing work temporarily, I thought it might be a good idea to get some information out there. Today’s topic is collection calls and letters:
Comanche county courthouse is closed. What does this mean to you, nobody can sue you! A phone call and letter from a creditor means nothing. Collection agencies are notoriously bad about saying all kinds of crazy stuff to get you to pay them. For instance you aren’t going to jail if you haven’t paid your bill to them. A lawsuit is first step for the creditor to get your money or other assets from you. A judgement is what allows a creditor to garnish your wages every pay period or bank account one garnishment at a time. If the creditor doesn’t already have a judgement and garnishment in place they can’t get a lawsuit filed and get a judgement because the courthouse is closed. The One big exception to this is your car, car creditors can repossess your car with out court order because you agreed to that in your contract to finance it and they have lien against it. Another exception is military star. So right now it is not the time to worry about those collection calls.
