Chancery Court is a court of specific jurisdiction, that is to say it only hears matters assigned to it by law. Zeke was recently appointed to serve as co-Chair of the Solo and Small Firm Committee for the Young Lawyers Division of the Mississippi Bar Association. In this role, Zeke will work with co-Chair Denise Fondren to provide Continuing Legal Education opportunities to solo practitioners and small firm attorneys and to encourage small firm participation in the law school shadowing program, among other things. Today marks TWO YEARS of serving our home town!

On September 14, 2020, I took a leap of faith and hung the proverbial shingle. I started Baucum Law Firm, PLLC with the goal of providing effective, diligent legal representation. It is wild to think that this operation started with a page and a "virtual office." I am so grateful to the Jones County Bar Association, the Mississippi Bar, my clients, and the local business community - all who have supported me over the last two years. The work I have been able to do as a solo practitioner is a dream come true - from serving as a Guardian ad Litem for the Chancery Court to representing clients in Jones, Jasper, Forrest, Lamar, Marion, and Covington Counties. I have worked with small business owners and parents, land owners and immigrants - all right here in Laurel. Most recently, I’ve begun assembling a top team, starting with my great assistant, Amanda Hohol - who has helped elevate the firm to a new level. Thank you to each of you who have been along for the ride. I cannot wait to tell ya’ll what is next.

When is a Conservatorship or Guardianship appropriate?

Mississippi law permits the creation of a Conservatorship or Guardianship when the Ward (person to be placed under said conservatorship or guardianship) is unable to competently care for himself or his affairs. All relevant parties, including the ward, are entitled to notice and the Petitioner (person seeking conservatorship or guardianship) must prove by clear and convincing evidence that the Ward requires one. This holiday was officially recognized as a federal holiday, though only for federal workers, when President Grover Cleveland signed the Labor Day bill on June 28, 1894.
