🚨 USCIS UPDATE: New Form I-864 Edition Effective August 31, 2026

USCIS is now requiring the 08/24/26 edition of Form I-864, Affidavit of Support. There is no grace period, and the previous 10/17/24 edition will no longer be accepted for filings submitted on or after August 31, 2026.

The new edition also includes a privacy release allowing USCIS to request information from consumer reporting agencies. Sponsors with a credit or security freeze should respond promptly to any USCIS request to release the freeze to help avoid delays.

📌 If your immigration filing requires Form I-864, make sure you are using the correct edition before submitting.

The U.S. State Department has announced a pause and adjustment of immigrant visa appointments worldwide while consular officers undergo a global training initiative.

The training is intended to strengthen and standardize the screening and evaluation of immigrant visa applicants, including consideration of whether applicants may become dependent on U.S. public benefits.

Applicants who already had interviews scheduled have reportedly received notices that their appointments are being rescheduled. The State Department has not provided a specific timeline for when regular scheduling will resume.

A new change to the “public charge” rule is coming this September. 🇺🇸

Starting September 18, 2026, certain green card applicants could face a broader review of their financial and personal circumstances.

Under the new framework, immigration officers may have more discretion to consider factors such as:
• Age
• Health
• Family circumstances
• Income and financial resources
• Education and skills
• Certain public benefits

Receiving a public benefit does not automatically mean an application will be denied. Instead, officers may consider the applicant’s overall circumstances when determining whether they are likely to become a public charge.

The change could have a significant impact on some people applying for permanent residence, particularly through certain family- and employment-based pathways. However, the public charge rule does not apply to everyone, and some immigration categories are exempt.
