I received some good news yesterday. I passed the Utah Bar Exam and will now be practicing law in both Nevada and Utah. That was a harder task that I thought it would be after being away from law school for over 20 years. Also, in case you are wondering, I don't have any intension of moving. That was always the first question I would get after telling someone that I was studying for the Utah Bar Exam.

I was reading the Nevada Supreme Court case of Ceballos v. NP Palance, LLC. It confirms what many attorneys have been saying: Even though ma*****na use is legal in Nevada, employers can still fire you for its use because it violates Federal Law. For those who were wondering.

Insider advice: I use to be in-house counsel for Hartford Insurance and I dealt with a lot of personal injury attorneys. My experience is that those who advertised on television were what we called "PI Mills". That meant that they had a reputation for processing large quantity of cases rather than being known for providing quality service to individual cases. Most work was done by paralegals in a very cookie-cutter way. They used the same processes regardless of the intricacies of individual cases. That is why they were called "mills". We on the insurance defense side knew which firms had a reputation for being mills that would settle their client's cases for low dollar amounts and a quick payout. Be careful when you choose a PI firm.

Administrative Court Costs are a secret tax. I heard nothing about them until I became a municipal court judge.
