Jury Trial Win for David Lee & Charlene Renwick - 12/20/2024

David Lee and Charlene Renwick obtained a significant jury win for their client in Clark County, Nevada. The jury awarded the full amount of damages sought plus a hefty punitive damages award to Mr. Lee and Ms. Renwick’s client.

The matter involved a construction contract that their client entered into with the defendant contractor to build and improve a vacant lot. The project was not only plagued by the contractor’s delays, but also by misrepresentations from the contractor and their accountant (also a defendant in the action). Not only did the project languish unfinished for years, but work delays resulted in materials being unfit for their intended use. On the last day of trial, the jury deliberated almost until midnight, but ultimately returned a verdict for Mr. Lee and Ms. Renwick’s client for $773,000 in damages along with another $450,000 in punitive damages.

Congratulations to Natasha Landrum! She was part of a team of talented defense attorneys who successfully ensured that the Nevada Supreme Court upheld a District Court’s summary judgment decision enforcing Nevada’s statute of repose in favor of their clients, thus avoiding exposure in the range of tens of millions of dollars. The decision adopts a common law definition for substantial completion, addresses the interaction of Chapter 116 claims and the statute of repose, and discusses the role of equitable considerations with statutes of repose.

Starting February 1, 2021, we bid farewell to our Florida colleagues. About fifteen years ago, I placed an ad for an Associate Attorney. Robert Carlson, who was fresh out of law school and had just passed the bar, answered. Then, 11 years ago, Robert relocated to Florida to open Lee, Landrum, & Carlson’s Miami office.

Over the years, the firm has worked and grown together to successfully achieve the best possible results for each and every client it has served in every location. Today, we announce that Lee, Landrum, & Carlson will be parting ways with Robert Carlson and its Florida operations to form two separate firms – Lee, Landrum, Marking & Ingle and the Carlson Law Firm. The Carlson Law Firm intends to focus on its service and expansion throughout the state of Florida, while Lee, Landrum, Marking & Ingle will maintain its focus on its western states’ operations. We believe that this separation will enhance efficiency for the two firms, also allowing each to be better able to serve you, as well as serve their respective communities. After 15 years of friendship and success, Lee, Landrum, Marking & Ingle and the Carlson Law Firm remain aligned, grateful, and supportive of each other’s future service and success.
