Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Police in Las Vegas are setting up checkpoints to target drivers who are caught talking on their cell phones without a hands-free device.
The ban on driving while talking on a cell phone went into effect on January 1. Drivers can now receive a $50 fine for their first offense.
The checkpoints will take place between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. every day this week, police say. They will be set up at the following locations:
Tuesday: Sahara Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard
Wednesday: Charleston Boulevard and Lamb Boulevard
Thursday: Decatur Boulevard and Flamingo Road
Friday: Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway
Police say those locations were chosen because they are the site of many car crashes.
