To honor Justice James W. Hardesty's service in helping underrepresented students overcome the economic hurdles of admission to law school, the State Bar of Nevada has created the Hardesty Scholarship at the University of Nevada, Reno.

The fellowship aims to help students afford the costs of preparing for law school including Law School Admission Test (LSAT) Preparatory Courses. Both undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Nevada, Reno who are in their sophomore year or higher, have financial needs, and plan to attend law school after finishing their degree, qualify for the scholarship. Aid preference will be given to students with a demonstrated interest and experience in creating and promoting equal opportunities and/or contributing to the advancement of historically underrepresented populations in the legal profession.

The Hardesty Scholarship will be awarded this year.
