The Dispute Resolution Society is hosting a mediation event Today at 5:30PM. Judge Joe Hardy Jr., Professor Jae Barrick, and Mr. Scott Bovitz will be in attendance (see bios below). This is a great opportunity to network and learn more about career opportunities as a mediator. After brief introductions and bio, students will have the chance to ask the panelist questions. Stop by and learn from three experienced legal professionals the importance of mediation, the differences between mediation and litigation, and how mediation impacts the legal community.

Joe Hardy Jr. is a Clark County District Court Judge (Department 15). Prior to his appointment in 2015, Judge Hardy was a co-managing partner of the Gordon & Rees Las Vegas office. Notably, he represented individuals and business entities in all types of civil litigation, both as plaintiffs and as defendants. Judge Hardy handles general civil and criminal cases. Judge Hardy is also an active participant in alternative dispute resolution, serving as a mediator for a variety of cases
Scott Bovitz is a bankruptcy litigator/mediator in Los Angeles. He is a contributing editor for Bankruptcy Mediation News and has published numerous articles concerning bankruptcy law and mediation. Mr. Bovitz also serves as an adjunct professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, where he teaches bankruptcy law and debtor-creditor law. Since 1995, he has been a member of the bankruptcy mediation panel for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California. His mediation panel settles approximately 2/3 of the cases which are sent to the program. He frequently collaborates with Professor Nancy Rapoport on a number of projects.
Jeanette “Jae” Barrick is a member of Nevada CIP Panel of Mediators for Dependency Actions and an attorney at Gallian Welker & Beckstrom, LC. Mrs. Barrick believes that mediation is a way to empower individuals to resolve issues whenever conflict arises. Mrs. Barrick is a graduate of the William S. Boyd School of Law and works in tandem with Professor Nassbaum at the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution. She also serves as an adjunct professor leading the school’s family law mediation practicum and parking arbitration program.
