Probate is the court system in which the general administers a deceased person’s will or estate of the deceased without a will.
This involves organizing the decedent's money, assets, and possessions and distributing them as an inheritance – after paying any taxes and debts. If the deceased has left a Will, it will name someone that they've chosen to administer their estate. This person is called a Personal Representative.
The purpose of probate is to ensure that a decedent’s assets get to his/her heirs.
