With the Fourth of July weekend here, Maryland police will be increasing DUI checkpoints and patrols across the state.
Drivers can expect heightened enforcement in areas including:
• Baltimore City: Fells Point, Federal Hill, Canton, and the Inner Harbor
• Anne Arundel County: Downtown Annapolis exits, Route 2, and the BWI corridor
• Montgomery County: Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Rockville entertainment districts
• Prince George's County: Route 1 near College Park and the National Harbor area
• Major highways including I-95, I-70, I-83, I-495 (Capital Beltway), US-50, and MD-295
• Fireworks displays, festivals, popular restaurants and bars, and beach routes to and from the Eastern Shore and Ocean City
If you're stopped at a DUI checkpoint, stay calm, provide requested identification, and know your rights. While you must stop at a lawful checkpoint, you also have important constitutional protections if you're ultimately arrested.
The best way to avoid a DUI is to plan ahead. If you'll be celebrating America's 250th birthday with some drinks, arrange for a designated driver, rideshare, or another safe way home before the celebrations begin.
From all of us at Alpert Schreyer, we wish everyone a happy & safe July 4th weekend!
